I decided that starting in October https://edede.wordpress.com will have series. These are my thoughts on how it’s going to play out (subject to change of course) –
Monday – Weekend Summary; on Mondays I will host an unbiased summary of all that went down during the weekend/ past week. Summary will cover a range of topics…politics, the arts, entertainment, public interest stories et all.
Tuesday – This Is Africa; Tuesdays will showcase news in African development and strategic alliances. Information is not easily accessible in this part of the world so I will search the nook and crannies and bring them to you. I find that good news boost morale so I’ll try not to overwhelm you with Africa’s issues.
Wednesday – e.dealy; this is edede’s day. Hah, you thought you could escape my randomness? Nah.
Thursday – Buzz/ Buzz Kill; Thursdays will be all about the latest buzz or buzz kill of the week. We will cover topics from the awesome to the incomprehensible.
Friday – YOU! This is your segment. If there is anything you want to share with the world (yes world) hit me up and I will prepare Friday’s entry for you. If I don’t get anything from you guys, Friday will be lonelyL.
Que tu pense?

Ahoy there matey! Today marks a year of https://edede.wordpress.com . It’s been cool and it way cooler that I know you guys are reading…I know because I see the readership report and I love it. Thank you all for taking time out of your busy busy schedules to experience Edede’s state of mind – its not easy keeping up with my randomness and I appreciate the support. To celebrate this occasion, I had Oreo cookies and milk…yum and y’all can do the same too. Let’s start a tradition! Yay! Speaking of tradition today is also the “Talk like a Pirate Day”…yes, no kidding, it actually exists. I’m not sure how people come up with this stuff.
Well it’s a Friday and we thank God for that. Hopefully you all have something awesome planned out. If not, no worries, you can stay in and save your energy and money for next weekend. What’s happening next weekend??? The Nigerian Independence Day parade in NYC baby! It’s only the most awaited parade in the Universe because this year Allen & Fifth will be there live and direct with our best stuff…YES, best stuff. And to top it off, we are having a discount sale to celebrate Nigeria’s – emm how old are we again? 1960 to 2008 – 48! 48 years as a country! WOW.
So you know what to do now. Make sure you stop by on the 27th of September 2008…with your wallet and bank cards (I’m sure there is a bank around). Its going to be at 44th Street and 2nd Avenue. Come out and have FUN. Abi, ki lo feel?
Until then, adios migente!

So the rolling stones song has been in my head for days now. It goes “you can’t always get what you want, you can’t always get what you want…but if you try sometime you will find you get what you need, you get what you need”. You probably know it or would know it when you hear it. I feel like the song has been in my head for a reason or maybe I’m trying to make reason for it even better maybe it’s the answer to all the questions I have right now.
For example, why are things so difficult? Answer: you can’t always get what you want…but if you try sometime you will find you get what you need.
Why does he make me angry sometimes? Answer: You can’t always get what you want…but if you try sometime you will find you get what you need.
Why are these chewing-gum girls sooooooooo annoying? Answer: You can’t always get what you want…but if you try sometime you will find you get what you need.
Why does it look like the economy is in shambles? Answer: You can’t always get what you want…but if you try sometime you will find you get what you need.
See? It actually does work and if it hasn’t for you yet just think about Mic Jagger holding the mic and sticking his tongue out and you will be super. Today, I envision walking by the lady who asks for change on Water St and when she says “Can you spare some change sweetie?” I’m gonna reply in a song, “You can’t always get what you want….but if you try to get a JOB, you will find you get what you need”. Sure it’s not how the lyric goes but it’s a close enough rendition.
And in closing…but if you try sometimmmmmme you will find you get what you need! You get what you need! Sing along people – You get what you need!

I sent a message to an old colleague asking if she knew about the state of Lehman, She replied, “Its just speculations. Nothing is final.” Two things; either she was in denial that her company was going down the toilet or she was clueless about the severity of the situation. The wildfire has begun as banks are watching their backs. There are two parties in this saga; those that will be devoured and those that devour. Right now the fate of AIG and WAMU is hanging on a thread. I don’t think anything drastic will happen immediately, as that would only put the market in disarray. The street has a lot to deal with now that Bank of America bought Merrill and Lehman is filing for bankruptcy that any more news of another bank faltering fast will increase the suicide attempts in the city. Haven said all hope isn’t lost; the future of Corporate America rests on the top very very few banks. The feds are not going to be bailing anyone out it seems, so the likes of Goldman and Morgan are going to take drastic steps. I see negotiations well on the way and a few compromises.
On another note, the US will increase high unemployment rates, NYC will suffer as people will begin to curb their spending; theatres, restaurants, operas, clubs will experience a slow down. Maybe the bars will see a surge in operations as people will be drinking themselves to stupor in the months to come. There will be an increase in business school application, especially the class of 2010. Getting into the top ten or even twenty will be even more competitive. Getting a job in the already wounded market will be excruciating. But, we will endure like we have always endured. The big apple will remain sturdy. All that there is to do is wait for the tide to pass.
